'Pokemon Sun and Moon' release date news: New footage to debut next month

"Pokemon Sun and Moon" footage will be shown on April 3. The Pokemon Company/Nintendo

Fans will get their official first look at "Pokemon Sun and Moon" in the coming week. On April 3, first footage from the game will be aired on the Japanese variety show "Gathering at the Pokemon House."

Series director Junichi Masuda, battle director Shigeki Morimoto and "Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire" director Shigeru Ohmori will do the honor and will also provide new details about the highly anticipated "Pokemon" titles.

There's no telling what the trio will offer on April 3 but it is safe to bet that the presence of Morimoto could hint that gamers will get a good look at how battles take place in "Pokemon Sun and Moon." Fans may also learn more about the setting of the titles.

Following this "Pokemon Sun and Moon" showcase, fans will also find more information about the upcoming titles in the April 15 issue of CoroCoro Comic. The Japanese magazine will share details about the special features of the new Nintendo 3DS exclusives there.

Ever since "Pokemon Sun and Moon" were announced last month, Nintendo and The Pokemon Company have remained tight-lipped about the games, so the April 3 event comes as good news to fans thirsty for information about the games.

"Pokemon Sun and Moon" are the first titles in the seventh-generation lineup of the beloved long-running game franchise. To make them extra special, the collaborators make history by putting traditional and simplified Chinese language as two of the players' language options -- a first in the franchise.

Also, with the addition of the Pokemon Bank in the games, players can transfer their Pokemon from older games like "Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow," "Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire" and "Pokemon X and Y" to "Pokemon Sun and Moon."

"Pokemon Sun and Moon" are expected to be out later this year. Hopefully, more specific release date information will come out of the "Gathering at the Pokemon House" showcase of the much-awaited titles.
