Game developer Obsidian Entertainment has bad news for fans anticipating the release of its new RPG title "Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire." The company has just announced that the game will not be seeing a release this April; rather, the game will be debuting a month after in May.

At the start of the year, the duo of publisher Versus Evil and game creator Obsidian Entertainment announced that the new title in the "Pillars of Eternity' franchise will be releasing this April 3. However, the team-up pulled back on their promise and scheduled the game for a new release date of May 8 on the PC platform.

It can be recalled that the highly acclaimed "Pillars of Eternity" series by Obsidian Entertainment started out as a crowdfunding project on Kickstarter. Obsidian amassed $4.4 million in its crowdfunding stint for "Pillars of Eternity: Deadfire," which helped progress the game's development.

Due to the franchise's overwhelming popularity, the first game in the series received ports on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One, selling a whopping 700,000 copies.

According to Obsidian's official statement, the reason for the delay stems from much-needed tweakings and polishing of the game. They shared that it is going to take a few extra weeks to finish all the needed mendings for the role-player.

"We are taking just a few extra weeks to polish and put those finishing touches on the game," the company shared.

In terms of what is new in this second installment, Obsidian promises a more comprehensive approach to character customization. In addition to this, the developer plans on making the next title an open-world set inside a customizable ship where players can freely modify aspects of their surroundings.

Aside from a PC release, the game is also slated for a release on major consoles such as the PS4 and the Xbox One. However, it is still unknown as of present time if the delay of the PC release will create a domino effect, which will further the release for the versions intended toward the mentioned platforms.

Currently, "Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire" is available for pre-order on Steam and is valued at $49.99.
