The trailer for the upcoming sci-fi sequel "Pacific Rim Uprising" has now made its way online, all thanks to AMC Theaters.

Fans of the movie franchise were in gasps as the latest trailer reveals bits and pieces of what is to come -- beginning with a whole lot of new Jaegers and a new, otherworldly Kaiju foe.

The new film in the "Pacific Rim" movie series is set a decade after the first installation. But unlike the first, humans have to fight off a whole horde of these gigantic beasts.

It is obvious in the latest preview that a lot has changed since the first "Pacific Rim" movie, which starred "Sons of Anarchy" actor Charlie Hunnam.

Foremost is how technology has advanced, storywise, enabling the production of a whole band of Jaegers in the film -- battling it out with a bigger Kaijus in true animatronic style.

But what is truly notable in this new trailer is that we get a sneak peek into where the storyline is headed.

Alongside the new Kaiju threat, the trailer also features battle scenes between Jaegers near the end of the footage. This new development leaves some to speculate whether humanity itself is fueling the rise of these superpowered creatures.

John Boyega, well-known for his performance in "The Last Jedi," will top-bill this new tale of mechanical humanoid versus horrific, enormous monsters. He will play the son of former Jaeger pilot Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba) -- tasked with forming a team of new-generation Jaeger pilots who will battle against the onslaught of Kaijus.

The first "Pacific Rim" film was directed by Guillermo Del Toro and was a smash hit worldwide, earning a reported sum of $411,002,906 in the box office.

"Pacific Rim Uprising" is due for release this summer on March 23.
