Fans of the blockbuster sci-fi hit film "Pacific Rim" will soon get the sequel that they have long been waiting for.

Film director Guillermo del Toro recently gave an update about the sequel's development through his official Twitter account, saying that the budget for "Pacific Rim 2" is already prepared. He also revealed that he is just waiting for writer Jon Spaihts to finish the script before they can submit it to the studios to green light the film's production.

The recent Twitter update and his previous interview with Den of Geek during the promo tour for del Toro's latest film "Crimson Peak" reignited public clamor for next installment of the 2013 fan-favorite monster movie. The film featured Charlie Hunnam as Pan Pacific Defense Corps pilot Raleigh Becket, Idris Elba as Becket's commanding officer Stacker Pentecost, Rinko Kikuchi as Becket's co-pilot Mako Mori, Charlie Day as Dr. Newton Geiszler, as well as Ron Perlman as the black marketer Hannibal Chau.

Del Toro also cleared the casting rumors regarding the possible appearance of "Game of Thrones" star Maisie Williams in "Pacific Rim 2."

In the said interview, the director corrected the earlier rumors about the casting, saying that he would love to confirm Williams's involvement in the film if he were the one calling the shots.

"I turned the screenplay, I turned the budget, and now it's their decision to make it. I hope we do. I think the screenplay is more interesting for me than even the first," del Toro stated. "It has a lot of strange complexities and now that we know the characters I can enjoy myself with Newt and Gottlieb and Herc and Raleigh. It would be quite the playground. If you ask me right now, I'm optimistic. I'm not pessimistic. I guess those two letters were a bigger qualifier than I would have liked."

The film maker also believes that Williams is a very strong actress and there will always be a role in the upcoming sequel that will be perfect for her.

"Pacific Rim 2" was initially slated to be released in theaters in August 2017, but it will be more likely pushed back because of the development delays.
