'Overwatch' patch news: Sombra gets rework on PTR

Balancing has always been an issue when it comes to online competitive games. "Overwatch" has had its own different metas and recently, Sombra is reported to be one of those heroes who are not used as much as the other characters. Currently, she does not do that much for the team but that will soon change as an update will give her big changes in the Public Test Region (PTR).

Sombra has always been classified as an offensive hero mostly for her abilities to hack other heroes. However, with the way she is being used right now, she is more of a utility type of support player such as healing her team using hacked health packs. As an offensive hero, she deals a lot less damage compared with the heroes in meta right now such as Tracer and Soldier: 76.

Recently, Geoff Goodman, the game's designer, shared on a forum about Sombra's future changes. He detailed all the changes that are actually mostly buffs that she definitely deserves. Except maybe for one alteration that some gamers may not welcome, and that is she no longer gains the ultimate ability (or ult, in "Overwatch" lingo) to heal through health packs.

Her weapon speed is decreased by 10% but her hacking speed increased by 0.15 seconds making it 0.65 seconds from 0.8 seconds. She can also now hack any skill that is activatable. This means that she can hack Pharah's Hover Jets, Mercy's Angelic Descent, Hanzo's Wall Climb, Genji's Wall Climb and Double Jump, among others.

"The idea here is to take some power out of her ult (and awkwardness of ult gain through health packs), and give her more power and usefulness in the rest of her kit," writes Goodman in the post. Since this will still be tested in the PTR, changes can always still be made.

The patch for this has not been rolled out yet but it should soon. It may even include new changes to other heroes such Symmetra, Hanzo and maybe even Mei.
