Blizzard Entertainment, the company developing and publishing the multiplayer online first-person shooting game "Overwatch," announced that the game will celebrate the upcoming Lunar New Year with festivities centering on the Year of the Dog.
Blizzard announced the event on Twitter, with a short video clip of fireworks and the logo for the Year of the Dog. The Lunar New Year event will start on Feb. 8 for the PlayStation 4 (PS4), Xbox One and PC.
Last year, "Overwatch" also celebrated Lunar New Year focusing on the Year of the Rooster. The event featured seasonal skins inspired by the tale "Journey to the West" as well as ones based on the Lunar New Year. More exciting for players, however, was the exclusive gameplay mode offered during the event. The limited-time gameplay mode, Capture the Rooster, presents players with a battle set in Lijiang Tower where the main objective is to capture the flag with the rooster on it.
At the moment, there is no news on how the upcoming Lunar New Year will be celebrated. Many fans speculate that this year's event will more or less, be a repetition of last year's. Fans are wondering whether Blizzard will be bringing back the seasonal skins released last year or a new batch will be launched in the upcoming event. Those who were not able to avail the skins last year will probably be thankful for the opportunity to avail them this year. New skins, on the other hand, will be very much welcome as always.
Fans are also speculating on what exclusive gameplay mode will be available this coming Feb. 8. Some think that just like the seasonal skins, Blizzard may relaunch last year's gameplay mode, rebranding it as Capture the Dog. In case Blizzard won't be doing so and will opt to release a new gameplay mode, the main question that fans are wondering is if the new game will be able to surpass the success of Capture the Rooster.
If Blizzard will continue with the time frame it set for last year's Lunar New Year event, the upcoming Year of the Dog celebration is set to end three weeks from Feb. 8.
