The cast and crew of Starz's hit historical fiction drama "Outlander" had been spotted in various locations in Scotland to film the scenes for the show's third season.

The people behind the show were recently spotted filming at the ancient Craigmillar Castle in the Scottish capital city of Edinburgh early this week.

Edinburgh News posted a report about the activity happening at the historic landmark, saying that a crowd gathered outside the venue after seeing several film production equipment. The Historic Environment Scotland office also reportedly issued a notice about the closure of the ancient castle for the general public from Sept. 5 to 19 due to the filming of a third party production.

While the news did not confirm if the set belongs to "Outlander," Daily Record spotted a now-deleted Twitter post from someone who appears to be a production staff stating the show's first day at work on the said location.

The report also claimed that the castle will be used to film the scenes from the Ardsmuir Prison where Jamie (Sam Heughan) will be detained after the Scottish soldiers failed during the Battle of Culloden.

Meanwhile, series creator Ronald D. Moore talked to Golden Derby during the red carpet event at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony to discuss what fans should look forward to in "Outlander" season 3.

According to Moore, the series will be based on "Voyager," the third book of Diana Gabaldon's hit "Outlander" novel series. It will reportedly be a lot different from the second and first seasons of the show.

"[Season 3] involves a sea voyage and going to the Caribbean and to Jamaica and it has war elements and more 20th-century stuff and back-and-forth time travel elements," the series creator said. "It's a big, new, brand-new season," he continued.

"Outlander" season 3 is expected to premiere sometime in 2017.
