Fans of Starz's award-winning fictional historical fantasy drama "Outlander" should expect to see a stronger relationship between Jamie and Claire when the series returns for its sophomore season.

In an interview with Daily Record UK, actor Sam Heughan revealed that the marriage between his character Jamie Fraser and Caitriona Balfe's Claire Beauchamp will grow deeper after the horrifying events that happened in the first season.

Balfe also talked about the new dynamics in Claire and Jamie's relationship in an interview with Blastr, saying: "The idea they have of changing the future, she uses it like a mission and something for Jamie to put his focus and energy into so he's not dwelling on what's happened."

She also confessed that this will be particularly hard for Claire, who knows that she needs to do everything to make her husband forget the nightmare that he experienced in the hands of Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies) at the end of season one.

"They are going through a very complicated time in their relationship. It's not an easy time for them, but it's beautiful to watch how they figure out a way to support each other," Balfe added.

Meanwhile,  Heughan said that Claire has to sacrifice a little to make sure that Jamie forgets the events that happened in Scotland, since she has to help him in his quest of stopping the Jacobite uprising while she deals with her pregnancy without having to bother him. He also said the Jamie will devote all his time toward their new mission to infiltrate the French political scene.

"Jamie's thrown himself into it wholeheartedly. He's in it, but he's not relishing it at all. We see them slowly get better at [playing the game] and learn they can undercut people and be quite political themselves," the Scottish actor said.

He also revealed that while he can carry himself well when dealing with other people, he still cannot help but lose the strong facade whenever he and Claire goes home at night.

"Outlander" season 2 is slated for release sometime in 2016.
