"Orphan Black" season 5 was renewed before season4 wrapped up. The bad news is it will be the final run of the Tatiana Maslany-led science fiction series.

The story of the beloved clones will come to an end in "Orphan Black" season 5. There was no particular reason revealed as to why the show will end after its upcoming run.

However, the folks behind the mega successful show are grateful to fans for the support for the series, which is much more massive and overwhelming than they expected.

BBC America president Sarah Barnett promised in a statement to Variety that "Orphan Black" season 5 will be "one final gobsmacking clone adventure." She also praised the "remarkable" performance of Maslany, who plays majority of the characters on the show.

"The past four seasons have been a phenomenal adventure and we are eternally grateful to our loyal fans who have loved the twists and thrills of our weird little show," co-creators John Fawcett and Graeme Manson added.

Seeing what happened in season 4 finale, "Orphan Black" season 5 will have a lot of loose ends to tie up. When the season wrapped up, Sarah was left with a couple of problems to deal with.

"She came to the island to rescue Cosima, and now Kira is a hostage back with Mrs. S. So Sarah's got two huge concerns, not to mention she's pretty beat up and bleeding," Manson told TV Line.

The upside is that Cosima was finally reunited in season 4, with Delphine (after being presumed dead), who will be in "Orphan Black" season 5 "in some capacity."

However, there's still the lack of reassurance about Cosima finally curing herself and her sister after finally getting a hold of a cure in the form of the replicating cells.

Manson teased that since "gene therapy is an experimental procedure, in the real world as well as on the show," her recuperation isn't promised.

Making this far worse is the fact that half of the replicating cells are in the hands of Rachel. She intends to restart human cloning again with them.

Come "Orphan Black" season 5, fans will get to spend more time in the sinister island of Westmoreland.

"Orphan Black" season 5 is set to premiere next year.
