While much of the storyline of "Orange Is the New Black" season 5 remains under wraps, fans can expect that the upcoming season of the original Netflix series will draw some parallelisms with the current political climate in America as it tells its story happening in a span of three days.

Beyond the shadow of doubt, "Orange Is the New Black" season 5 is one of the most highly anticipated TV events this year. With the previous season of the series ending with a cliffhanger scene, fans can't help but wonder what is next.

To recall, "Orange Is the New Black" season 4 finale featured the death of the fan-favorite character Poussey (Samira Wiley) that eventually led to the uprising inside Litchfield prison. As the series finale episode concluded, fans were left with a cliffhanger showing Daya (Dascha Polanco) pointing a gun at Officer Humphrey (Michael Torpey). While a gunshot is heard in the trailer released last month, there is no way telling if it really comes from the gun that Daya sequestered.

However, whether Daya really pulls the trigger or not, fans can expect the upcoming season 5 of "Orange Is the New Black" to feature some parallelism with the current situation of America.

"The prisoners have revolted and there's a rebellion. An uprising happens and there's a resistance happening in Litchfield... there's a resistance that is happening in the country right now," reveals Laverne Cox, who plays the role of Sophia in the Netflix series, during a panel at the Television Academy's Saban Media Center in North Hollywood last week.

"There's a ripple effect and in our case it allows for the audience to see people who may be outside of their sexuality, race, socioeconomic status, size, gender or many number of things and see how it relates to them. I think crossing those lines is a political act, but that's not the genesis of it," says Taylor Schilling, who plays the role of Piper Chapman in the series, as she stresses at the same event how "Orange Is the New Black" mirrors the events in the real world.

"Orange Is the New Black" season 5 begins streaming over Netflix this June 9.
