The R15, rumored to be OPPO's upcoming mobile phone unit, is strikingly similar at first glance to the iPhone X. However, its other features may set it apart from the popular Apple device.
Leaked images on the Chinese site Weibo show a phone with a full-screen display, thin bezels, and a small notch at the top of the screen, much like the design of Apple's latest iPhone model. Even though not much is known yet about the OPPO R15, there are speculations on what consumers can expect.
OPPO's most recent launch was the A71, which came out in January of this year. The Chinese consumer electronics maker may be coming out with another phone, this time designated as the R15.
The R15 was likely thought to be called the R13 in earlier speculations. However, the rumored R13 looked different from the R15, although there are also speculations that the name R13 was modified since the number 13 is considered to be unlucky in many cultures.
While the R15 looks very similar to the iPhone X, it does have some differences. The leaked images of the rear of the phone show that it has a horizontally oriented dual camera setup, with a fingerprint scanner over the OPPO logo. The power button is on the right side of the unit, while the volume control buttons are on the left.
It also looks as though the R15 will come in Black, Purple, and Pink, unlike the iPhone X's Space Gray and Silver.
Consumers might be right to expect that the R15, however it will eventually look like, will likely influence the design of an upcoming OnePlus phone. The design of the OPPO R11 reportedly influenced the design of the OnePlus 5, while the OPPO R11s took after that of the OnePlus 5T. Thus, it is possible that the R15 might be an inspiration for the OnePlus 6's looks, although this phone's existence is still unconfirmed.
It also seems likely that OPPO will release a model called the R15 Plus, which will probably be bigger in screen size than the R15. The R15's display size will likely be six inches, while the R15 Plus's display size will be 6.4 inches.
