NY Yankees trade, roster rumors 2017: Giancarlo Stanton still a possibility as Shohei Ohtani says no to team

NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton has been the subject of rumors as he finds his way to another team. Because of his promising talent, the New York Yankees are hoping to get Stanton to play for the team to help bring them to the championships.

Right now, Yankees might seem to be one of the last teams on the list to take Stanton. This is especially true considering their finances. According to rumors, it would likely be difficult for the Yankees to try fitting Stanton with his salary of $25 million under the $197 million luxury tax threshold of 2018.

This did not stop the Yankees from at least trying, as they have previously done so with the Miami Marlins, where Stanton currently is in. Marlins stated that those who wish to take Stanton into their team should be able to cover his full contract of $295 million in the span of 10 years. The Marlins, however, are not exactly strict with that.

It would be a tough choice to trade some of their own talents from the Yankees, but it is up to them how much they would want to pursue the NL MVP. Assuming they do get Stanton, it would be nice seeing Stanton play in a team that already has AL Rookie of the Year Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez. Looking at the numbers, the homers they all make should be intimidating in itself.

While that still remains uncertain, another prospect they had in mind had already turned them down, as per MLB Daily Dish. The Japanese phenom, Shohei Ohtani, has declined to play with the Yankees. The New York team was one of the favorites for Ohtani as he makes his debut. Given that the Yankees have the largest market, there would be a lot of growth in store for the Japanese talent. However, it may seem like he prefers a smaller-based team.
