NVIDIA Pascal GP104 GPU news: Leaked photo hints at upcoming release?

Did NVIDIA already ship its next-generation Pascal GP104 GPUs right under the public's noses?

Speculations about the alleged release of the latest and most technologically advanced GPU from the Santa Clara, California-based semiconductor and consumer electronics firm stemmed from the leaked images spotted by VideoCardz early this week.

The publication looked into the suspicious photo of the reference board taken from WCCFTech.

According to the report, something looks amiss in the picture, since some of the screw holes are not aligned with the board and other holes appear to be missing. There is also a portion of the board covering the space that was supposed to be for the SLI connector.

But when the publication compared the readily available GTX 980 GAMING 4G PCB with the leaked photo, they claim that the two are a perfect match because all the screw holes fit exactly with the customized PCB with the GM204. All the missing holes also exist.

This prompted the publication to conclude that the leaked reference board of the GP104-400 came from an actual MSI card. This could mean that the latest GPU variety is already made available for retailers, and it will only take some time before the public can get hold of it.

However, the publication also admitted that their speculation was merely an educated guess, and they still need the confirmation to come from NVIDIA itself.

Other rumors about the Pascal GP104 claimed that the new GPUs will come with Micron GDDR5X chips, as well as the latest 16nmFinFET TSMC manufacturing process. It also comes with the Mixed Precision floating point computation that aims to improve the product's performance. This will allegedly make the new GPUs to be four times better than the current ones on the market.

NVIDIA is expected to make an announcement about the Pascal GP104 soon.
