The planned 2016 release date of Nintendo NX is still possible, based on the rumors that are starting to circulate online.
A source who uses the codename MetalDave recently revealed to GoNintendo that he received insider information from an unnamed PlayStation 4 developer regarding the progress of Nintendo's new gaming platform.
According to the informant, Nintendo is working with key partners who already came up with dev kits from second and third party sources. The informant also said that their studio is currently working on a graphically challenging PlayStation 4 game which they also want to develop for the next Nintendo platform.
But according to the source, the studio has yet to receive their own dev kit and detailed specs of the upcoming Nintendo NX, but the Japanese gaming entertainment company already advised them about the date when they can start ordering the NX Dev Kit.
The source also claimed that Nintendo is currently screening the early dev kit access before it can be launched for public developers. This could take quite a while since a lot of things are needed to be accomplished first before the official Nintendo NX dev kit public developer launch date can be announced. However, it reportedly could still come right on time to have the platform released in late 2016.
MetalDave also added that "The developer told me that the time frame of the dev kits being made public for all or most developers to order goes in line with a 2016 release when referring to porting games, but the release of the NX will be up to Nintendo to ultimately 'just do it' and release the NX this year."
Meanwhile, a report from IGN speculated that Nintendo will possibly unveil more detailed information about their mysterious NX platform during the E3 2016, which is scheduled to take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center on June 14 to 16.
