Nintendo NX release date: July 2016 launch seems unlikely

It seems like the reports about the 2016 release of the Nintendo NX, Nintendo's next-generation game console, are not accurate.

Speculations about the alleged release date of the NX started early this month when a source told DigiTimes that Nintendo already ordered its supply chain partners to start producing the new game console units not later than October 2015 so the product could be launched in July 2016. The source also reportedly mentioned that the manufacturer that was contacted by Nintendo for the production of the Nintendo NX is Foxconn Electronics, but their other supplier, Pegatron Technology, is said to be aiming to get their share of Nintendo NX orders as well. The report claims that neither supplier responded for verification.

However, several sites say that the highly anticipated game console is not likely going to be released next year.

Forbes recalled Nintendo's past statement about the NX, saying that they will not divulge any details about the console until next year. The report also said that it is unlikely that a company will release the new gaming device just six months after it was announced since the normal debut of any console usually offers a preview of the product before the holiday season prior to the actual release date.

Also, it would be unnatural to see a very short shelf-life of a video game console, since Nintendo's latest Wii U was released only in 2012. If the company decides to reveal the NX in 2016, then the Wii U's sales will definitely drop drastically just four years after it was first introduced in the market.

Meanwhile, Wii U Daily spotted a leaked update about the Nintendo NX on Twitter claiming that the soon-to-be released console will not compete with the "power level" of Sony's PlayStation 4.

According to tipster @Doctor_Cupcakes, the Japanese video game brand is not aiming to match or compete with the graphics and hardware of the PS4. It could mean that the company is planning to come up with a modest system with an affordable price to get more buyers instead of going for a high-end gaming unit.

Nintendo has yet to make a statement to validate both rumors regarding the upcoming Nintendo NX console.
