Nina Dobrev wants projects 'where talent range is diffficult' after 'Vampire Diaries'

The premiere episode of the first Nina Dobrev-less "The Vampire Diaries" season already aired last week, but it does not mean that the presence of the 26-year-old actress was not felt in the episode.

Dobrev first announced that she will no longer return to her role as Elena Gilbert in the seventh season of the supernatural romance drama via her Instagram account, saying that she has always envisioned herself playing the beloved character for six seasons then she will start moving on to other projects to expand her horizon.

For her post-"TVD" gig, the Bulgarian-Canadian actress returned to her indie roots with the SXSW Audience Awardee "The Final Girls." Dobrev portrayed the role of a possessive ex-girlfriend named Vicki Summers in the horror slasher comedy film that was released in the US on Oct. 9.

In a recent interview with actor Michael Pena posted for Interview magazine, Dobrev was  stated to be working with "Game of Thrones" star Maisie Williams and "Ender's Game" star Asa Butterfield in the coming-of-age indie film "Arrivals" that will be directed by Peter Hutchings.

According to Deadline, Dobrev will portray the role of an American flight attendant named Izzy, who is the love interest of Butterfield's hypochondriac character named Calvin. The story will revolve around the odd bucket list of the British teenager named Skye, who will need Izzy's help to force Calvin to face his greatest fear.

Dobrev will start working on the film next year.

Meanwhile, the actress also started to break free from her role as Elena by having a little makeover for a photospread for Who What Wear, where the actress was seen sporting some bangs.

In the photo shoot, Dobrev looked more sultry and seductive in the fashion spread, and even claimed that she is ready to work on "something dark and gritty" for her future projects.

"I want to do film. I want to do things where the talent range is difficult and that scare me. I thrive on that; if it's not scaring me then I'm not growing," Dobrev stated.
