Josh Smith's sudden dismissal from the Detroit Pistons could be a blessing in disguise, as the veteran forward is being sought by some of the best teams this season.

Based on several reports, the Houston Rockets is seriously considering getting Smith's services to add more talent to the team. According to Yahoo Sports' reporter Adrian Wojnrarowski, the Rockets have been eying Smith for quite some time, and they are looking forward to finally signing him up once all negotiations push through.

Wojnarowski explained that for two years, the Rockets have wanted to get Smith. Unfortunately, they didn't succeed in acquiring him from Atlanta in 2013. Also, according to the reporter's sources, Smith was likewise interested in joining the Rockets, even before signing a deal with the Detroit.

Smith, who hails from College Park, Georgia, has an average of 13.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 4.7 assists this season. However, his playing style seems to be in contrast with the demands of Piston coach Stan Van Gundy.

The news about Smith's sudden release from the Pistons was announced on Dec. 22, surprising a lot of people. He was in the middle of a four-year contract worth $54 million, which started in 2013.

If Smith will indeed sign with the Rockets, he will be playing with close friend Dwight Howard. The two were once teammates when they both played with the Atlanta Celtics several years back. Also, he will have a big role to fulfill once he signs up for the Rockets, as power forward Terrence Jones cannot play yet after having had a nerve injury in his right leg since November, and there is no specific time when he can go back to the game.

Aside from the Rockets, the 29-year-old forward is also being wooed by several other teams, including the Sacramento Kings, the Dallas Mavericks, the LA Lakers as well as the LA Clippers.
