After the mind-boggling events that happened in the first season finale, series creator Sam Esmail finally revealed what fans should look forward to in "Mr. Robot" season 2.

During the Television Critics Associations winter press tour on Thursday, Esmail revealed several details regarding Elliot Alderson's (Rami Malek) next steps after he realized that Mr. Robot (Christian Slater) is just a pigment of his imagination.

"There will be a lot more backstory that will be shown, the timeline will get a little clearer — not 100 percent clear, because where's the fun in that? But a little clearer," the series creator revealed. "It really is about Elliott trying to reconcile what this means in seeing Mr. Robot. The series is filling in the blanks of the past and the present of this character ... It's about a guy who becomes aware of this delusion he's been having."

Esmail also mentioned that he never worried about the future of Slater's character after revealing that he was only existing in Elliot's fantasy. He said that now, more developments with Mr. Robot's presence on the show will happen as the story of the show progresses.

"When I first wrote this as a feature [film, the Mr. Robot revelation] happened at the first act break. What the movie was about, was what if a guy discovers this thing about himself, what's the next thing he does? That, to me, is the interesting part," the series creator said.

Esmail also explained that the show actually centers on Elliot's emotional journey instead of the truth behind the persona of Mr. Robot. This is why he believes that the main goal of "Mr. Robot" season 2 focuses on Elliot's struggle to deal with the reality that the man who brought him to fsociety is just a part of his fantasy.

While the series creator did not reveal the official release date of "Mr. Robot" season 2, reports mentioned that the show will start shooting in New York City in March. USA Network is expected to air the premiere episode in summer this year.
