'Mr. Robot' season 2 release date: Fans waiting for premiere date announcement

The first season finale of "Mr. Robot" will be aired this week, and USA Network already ordered a second season for the breakthrough techno-thriller of 2015. Even before the series premiered on June 24, the network already asked series creator Sam Esmail to come up with "Mr. Robot" season 2.

The series centers on the life of Elliot Alderson (Rami Malek), an anti-social computer programmer who works as a cybersecurity engineer at Allsafe, a cybersecurity company in New York City. He was diagnosed with social anxiety disorder and clinical depression, which gives him the tendency to become delusional and paranoid.

If not working, Elliot spends his time hacking other people, which has made him a cyber-vigilante. Because of this, a highly secretive anarchist recruited him to join the underground community of hackers called FSociety. Their main objective is to take down the company called E Corp, or most commonly known as the Evil Corp.

Elliot refers to the mysterious recruiter as Mr. Robot (Christian Bale).

The positive reviews prompted USA Network to call for at least 10 more episodes for "Mr. Robot" season 2, which is expected to air sometime next year.

When the pilot episode was released on different nonlinear platforms back in May, it was watched by almost three million viewers through various sites. It was also given the Audience Award in the Episodic TV Series category during the South by Southwest Film Festival back in March.

The first season finale will show the downfall of the Evil Corp, which could instigate chaos and discord in society. People of New York City take their protests to the streets, and Elliot seems to be in the state of disbelief because of current events.

The season 1 finale of "Mr. Robot" will air Wednesday, Aug. 26, on the USA Network.
