The boys are getting ready for graduation in the upcoming finale of "Modern Family" season 8.

Titled "The Graduates," next week's episode will see Manny (Rico Rodriguez) and Luke (Nolan Gould) prepare to enter a new chapter in their lives. According to the official synopsis, Manny's father, Javier (guest star Benjamin Bratt), returns to celebrate Manny's special day. He takes his son on a wild night of fun, but it seems that he will leave without any proper goodbye again. Jay (Ed O'Neill) steps in to pick up the pieces the next day. Meanwhile, everyone gets emotional as the Pritchett-Dunphy-Tucker clan prepare for Luke and Manny's graduation day.

Although season 8 will be ending in a bittersweet note, fans can rest assured that it will not be the last time they will see the show. The network has announced a back-to-back renewal for "Modern Family," with the door left open for more seasons in the future.

News of the ABC sitcom's renewal is not much of a surprise. The series remains as the network's highest-rated comedy program, with 2.9 rating in the 18-to-49 demo and 8.8 million viewers in the latest season. Throughout its run, the show has also won numerous awards, including the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series from season 1 to season 5. This ties the series with "Frasier" for the most consecutive wins in the Emmys.

". . . There is so much more to explore in the lives of this family, and so many pressing needs in the lives of our own actual families to go on ignoring, that this timing could not have worked out any better," says co-creator Christopher Lloyd in a press release. "Truly, it's a humbling experience. Ty Burrell has already pointed out that Alexander the Great's entire reign only lasted eight and a half years (326–317 BC) so yes, everyone is deeply humbled by this."

The "Modern Family" season 8 finale airs on Wednesday, May 17, at 9 p.m. EDT on ABC.
