More than two years after his tragic skiing accident in the French Alps, Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher is still unwell, according to his former boss.

In a recent interview with Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, former Ferrari chief Luca di Montezemolo revealed that the former seven-time world champion's health is still not improving.

"I'm always checking up on him, and unfortunately the news isn't good," Di Montezemolo revealed.

However, the former Ferrari boss did not provide more specific information about Schumacher's health. Instead, Di Montezemolo only praised the 47-year-old race car driver.

"He was the most successful driver Ferrari ever had. He only suffered one accident in his entire career, in 1999, and it was our fault, not his," the former Ferrari executive revealed.

He also described the former Formula 1 champion as a very exceptional driver and an outstanding friend.

"He was a great driver and we shared a great personal and professional relationship, we also had the pleasure of having our children at similar times."

The German race car driver managed to win 91 races during the prime of his grand prix career, including five under Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro from the year 2000 to 2004. He ended in the 13th spot during his final race with the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team in 2010.

Schumacher had the skiing accident on Dec. 29, 2013, when he and his family went on a holiday in the French Alps. He he hit his head against a rock while going down the Combe de Saulire. He was put into a medically induced coma because of the brain injury that he obtained. He gained consciousness in June 2014 and was moved from the Grenoble Hospital to receive further treatments at the University Hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Despite his slow progress in recovery, the legendary race car driver was brought home by his wife Corrina and children Gina Marie and Nick where he is being attended to by a group of medical experts to help him on his road to recovery.
