Michael Schumacher: Former racer's children promote #keepfighting initiative to inspire people to 'never give up'

It has been a little over four years since former F1 racer Michael Schumacher had a skiing accident. In December 29, 2013, the racer fell while skiing and hit his head on a rock. The racer endured serious injuries which required doctors to put him in a medically-induced coma.

It is widely-believed that Schumacher is slowly recovering. However, his family is keen on maintaining their privacy and updates regarding the racer's health are rather sporadic.

Meanwhile, Schumacher's children are doing their part to promote awareness of their father's condition.

His 20-year-old daughter Gina Maria recently posted an inspirational picture on her Instagram account. She uploaded a picture of a lake scenery and captioned it with "There is only one happiness in this life, to love and be loved. #keepfighting." Incidentally, the hashtag is also the name of a non-profit initiative started by her brother Mick.

The "Keep Fighting" initiative aims to inspire people to "keep fighting and never give up." Mick started the movement in honor of his father.

This shows that every member of the Schumacher family tries to do their part to help the former racecar driver, in their own ways.

There have been rumors that Schumacher can walk again; however, their lawyer Felix Damm was quick to debunk these stories. The family is serious about debunking false rumors— fans may remember them suing Germany-based "Bunte" magazine for falsely publishing that the racer can walk again.

The latest update that directly referred to Schumacher's condition was a statement given by his wife, Corinna Betsch.

Betsch said in November that "The decision to protect his privacy from the public has been taken in Michael's interest." She added that something "very serious" happened regarding Schumacher. No concrete updates have been heard from the family since.

Schumacher's friends in the racing circuit continue to honor him whenever they can. Lewis Hamilton, who recently matched Schumacher's pole position record in Belgium, said that it was "a true honour" to match the legendary driver's achievement.
