'Marvel's Iron Fist' cast news, spoilers: Another 'Game of Thrones' star snags major role

Latest "Marvel's Iron Fist" cast member Jessica Henwick as Nym Sand in "Game of Thrones" HBO

Netflix has plucked another star from HBO juggernaut "Game of Thrones" for a major role in its upcoming comic book adaptation "Marvel's Iron Fist."

Actress Jessica Henwick was cast to play the role of female lead Colleen Wing, a martial arts expert who will become a precious ally to protagonist Danny Rand, a.k.a. Iron Fist, as he rebuilds his life in New York.

Colleen Wing is one of the first and most important friends Danny Rand makes in New York, so Henwick will be sharing a lot of screen time with Finn Jones, who will play the lead character in "Marvel's Iron Fist." It's not the first time they will work together, though.

In "Game of Thrones," Henwick plays the role of whip-wielding Nymeria Sand, who fans will see in the show's sixth season. Her "Marvel's Iron Fist" co-lead is also on the fantasy series as Ser Loras Tyrell.

Henwick also starred in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" as X-Wing pilot Jessika Pava.

"I'm very excited to have Jessica as our Colleen Wing. She's shown us that she can bring both a sense of quiet strength as well as an engaging vulnerability to the character," Scott Buck, the executive producer and showrunner for "Marvel's Iron Fist said in a statement.

Head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb believes Henwick will depict Colleen Wing impeccably.

"Jessica brings both a youthful vitality mixed with a strong sense of authority crucial to the character. And as anyone who's seen her in 'Game of Thrones' can attest, she can throw down with the best of them, making her the perfect Colleen Wing," Loeb said.

"Marvel's Iron Fist" follows Danny Rand, who re-emerges five years after going off the radar. His return in New York marks the beginning of his superhero duties. With his proficiency in kung-fu and his ability to summon a fiery wallop called Iron Fist, he starts calling himself the Iron Fist.
