Players will learn more about John Donovan's backstory when Hangar 13 releases the latest downloadable content (DLC) for "Mafia 3."

"Stones Unturned" gives fans more insight into the story of John Donovan, Lincoln's ex-CIA friend. He joins in the action as Lincoln's right-hand man, fighting with him as they accomplish bounty hunting missions together in New Bordeaux. In the core "Mafia 3" storyline, John is confined to an office as he runs things behind the scenes. The upcoming expansion changes things up by making the businessman hit the streets with his buddy Lincoln.

WWG notes that new locations will be opened for the new expansion. Additional areas within New Bordeaux City limits will be introduced, including a restaurant, a safe house, and a department store. A remote island off the coast of New Bordeaux will be featured as well. In addition, the DLC will allow players to call in Sniper Support. New vehicles, weapons, and mission types will also be available for players.

Hangar 13 has released some new footage from "Stones Unturned" in which the developers discuss the next DLC. The game's senior writer Ed Fowler shared some insight on what fans can expect from the latest add-on.

"He's there with you every step of the way, helping unfold a mystery brewing in New Bordeaux," he said. "As Donovan's past catches up with him, you're fighting side-by-side . . . or, in some cases, firing a huge mounted turret from the back of a truck while he's doing the driving."

"Stones Unturned" is the game's second story expansion. The new DLC officially comes out on May 30 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC platforms. Players can access the expansion through the $29.99 Season Pass. It can also be purchased on its own for $14.99. Meanwhile, the third story expansion called "Sign of the Times" is expected to arrive sometime in July.

Developed by Hangar 13 and published by 2K Games, "Mafia 3" is exclusively available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
