MacBook Pro news: Apple looking to release updated 32GB RAM device this year?

The WWDC 2018 came and went without any major hardware updates, much to the disappointment of Apple fans who were hoping for some new product updates on the MacBook lineup.

The keynote this week focused mainly on ios 12 and macOS Mojave, and other software developments like Memoji and changes to FaceTime, dashing hopes of some news about the iPhone SE and MacBook.

The new version of macOS will include an all-new Dark Mode that features a darkened colour scheme that makes it easier  to view content and files on the screen, and the new Dynamic Desktop feature that matches the picture on the desktop to the time of day.

Despite no mention of a new MacBook Pro at the WWDC, that hasn't stopped tech observers from speculating that Apple may yet be working on it.  In fact, BGR says Apple may be developing a 32GB RAM MacBook Pro for release in the near future.

That would be an exciting shift up from the current maximum 16GB of RAM offered by the MacBook Pro series, something Apple has been criticized for.

It reports a Geekbench listing showing the existence of a 32GB MacBook Pro exist (model MacBookPro14,3), which scored 4902 in the single-core test and 22316 in the multi-core test.

According to the listing, the device is powered by an Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor - the current models feature the Intel Core i7 chip - and runs on macOS 10.13.4.

If the specs are true, it would make the model Apple's fastest and most powerful MacBook Pro to date.

BGR speculated that despite Apple not divulging any details at WWDC, there is a good chance that the updated MacBook Pro will release some time this year.

For Apple lovers who can't wait out the uncertainty, Best Buy is knocking $300 off the 13-inch MacBook Pro as part of its Father's Day deals. The discount is even better - $350 - if you are a student.

The reduction sees the price on the 128GB 13-inch MacBook Pro tumble from $1,299.99 down to $999.99 and the 256GB version fall from $1,499.99 to $1,199.99.
