'Longmire' season 4 release date update: Filming concluded

Longmire A&E/Netflix

After several months of filming, the production for the fourth season of "Longmire" has officially come to an end. The cast and crew of the critically acclaimed crime drama have already said their goodbyes to each other for the time being.

Actress Louanne Stephens, who portrays the role of sheriff's office dispatcher and manager Ruby, posted several behind-the-scenes photos of her last day on the set of "Longmire" season 4, including one with the show's lead star Robert Taylor.

Stephens had been working closely with Taylor's character Sheriff Walt Longmire, which means that the two actors developed a strong friendship on the set.

In one of her posts, Stephens said: "Saying goodbye to the sherrif for season 4. Jealous, girls? The kindest man @LongmirePosse #longmire"

Stephens also posted a photo taken after Ruby's last scene for the season was filmed, with a caption that was hinting a request to Netflix to bring back the show for another season next year.

Actor Lou Diamond Phillips also posted his last photo of the set in his Twitter account, with the caption: "From #YoungGuns to #Longmire, you've been my 'pal.' Thanks Santa Fe & New Mexico! @NewMexicoFilm #NewMexicoTrue"

This initially alarmed the fans of the show, thinking that the actor was already saying goodbye permanently to the set and "Longmire" season 4 will be the series' final season. But he later on clarified that he was only saying goodbye to the season, and they are planning to return for season 5, if possible.

"Longmire" season 4 almost never happened after A&E cancelled the series after the third season finale back in August 2014. But due to the strong clamor from fans, Warner Horizon Television decided to offer the show to other networks. Online entertainment streaming service provider Netflix announced on Nov. 19 that they would pick up the show's fourth season.

Fans now have to wait for Netflix's announcement about the official release date of "Longmire" season 4.
