After beating Vandal Savage (Casper Crump) at the end of season 1, the team will have a new mission when "Legends of Tomorrow" returns to The CW for season 2.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Marc Guggenheim teased that the team will face new challenges after the demolition of the Oculus and the Time Council.

"In many ways, the season finale of season 1 set up the new mission statement for season 2," Guggenheim said. "Like Rip says at the end of the season finale, there basically are no more Time Masters. We basically have to be the Time Masters."

One of the revelations at the end of season 1 is the introduction of Rex Tyler/Hourman, portrayed by Patrick J. Adams.

In a separate interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Guggenheim revealed that the Hourman's statement in the season 1 finale provided a preview for the plot of season 2. He also hinted at the introduction of his friends from the Justice Society of America.

"For comic book fans, everyone knows the Justice Society is really the precursor to the Justice League, so it's a pretty big move in our DC universe here on TV," Guggenheim stated.

Fans of DC Comics know that the original founder of the JSA is Jay Garrick, who is portrayed by John Wesley Shipp in "The Flash" season 2. This could mean that Jay could appear in a crossover episode between the two shows in the Arrowverse.

The second season of "Legends of Tomorrow" will see the return of Dominic Purcell as Heat Wave, Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter, Caity Lotz as White Canary, and Brandon Routh as Atom. They will be joined by Maisie Richardson-Sellers who will portray the role of Amaya Jiwe/Vixen and Nick Zano, who will play the role of Nathan Heywood.

"Legends of Tomorrow" season 2 will premiere on Oct. 13.
