NetherRealm Studios unveiled the gameplay footage for episode 1 of "Mortal Kombat X" during its fifth live stream event titled "MKX Kombat Kast" Friday, almost a month before the game reveal takes place.

In the latest live stream event, which the game developer staged to talk about the upcoming game release, about seven minutes of gameplay was shown. It featured scenes of Johnny Cage versus Scorpion and Sub-Zero, where the variation of the former combatant was showcased. "Mortal Kombat X," as it turns out, now allows players to choose from a variety of strategy and fighting styles for their desired players. This is the first time that an installment from the "Mortal Kombat" series will offer this option to its players.

Aside from the gameplay, a short trailer was also aired. The trailer confirmed that infamous murderer Jason Voorhees will be one of the playable fighters in the "Kombat Pack" of "Mortal Kombat X." Jason, the widely feared character from the "Friday the 13th" franchise, was also previously reported to be featured in a new game that will focus on the Jason-versus-campers angle, which is currently under development.

Other characters featured in the "Kombat Pack" are two still-unnamed "Klassic Mortal Kombat Kombatants" as well as another guest fighter. This pack can be purchased separately for a pricetag of $30.

"Mortal Kombat X" is expected to be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Android and iOS devices on April 14. On the other hand, the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions will not be included in the April release. Instead, the last-gen gaming console version is expected to come out in summer.

Although the reason for the delay was not discussed, gamers should remember that the last-generation versions of "Mortal Kombat X" are under the supervision of High Voltage Software, the same one that NetherRealm used in bringing "Injustice: Gods Among Us" to PC and PlayStation 4, as well as "Mortal Kombat" to PC back in 2011.
