Square Enix has confirmed that the much-awaited fantasy video game "Kingdom Hearts 3" will be released sometime this year. However, the Japanese game studio has yet to give an exact release date for the sequel, as well as the other gameplay info. According to the latest reports, Square Enix is likely to attend the upcoming Disney Official Fan Club or D23 event in Japan this February, in which "KH3" will become a topic.

As reported by Gaming Bolt, Square Enix might use the D23 event to reveal fresh information on "Kingdom Hearts 3," including a more specific launch date of the game title. This is consistent with the earlier rumors that the game studio will make an important announcement in connection with "Kingdom Hearts 3" this month. To note, the D23 event will run from February 10 to 12.

There is a distinct possibility that the fans will get the latest scoop about "Kingdom Hearts 3" at this year's D23 event. The past D23 conventions had already discussed the possible new Disney worlds to be featured in the game, as well as the popular Disney characters that will be involved with the main "KH" characters. Also, Square Enix also took the stage at a D23 event to announce the release date of "Final Fantasy XV" back in 2016, and it is likely that the studio will do the same with "Kingdom Hearts 3" this year.

"Kingdom Hearts 3" is the third installment of the renowned "KH" franchise, which is known to merge the iconic worlds of "Final Fantasy" titles and Disney films together. In the latest sequel, the lead protagonists, Sora, Riku, King Mickey, Goofy and Donald Duck will be joined by a group of new Disney characters as the world is once again threatened by the forces of darkness. "Kingdom Hearts 3" is expected to follow the events of "Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance," wherein Master Xehanort is planning to start the second Keyblade War.
