Excluding Henry Cavill's Superman, "Justice League" showcases five superheroes in its marketing posters. However, recent leaks reveal the movie is introducing one more character from the DC comics, Green Lantern.
One day before the premiere, two reports — one verified by the DC Extended Universe Leaks page admin, and one unverified — surfaced on Reddit, claiming that Green Lantern makes a cameo on "Justice League." He reportedly does not make it to the end of the film, only appearing on tape as part of a scene set in a history lesson.
Redditor ecabarus who claimed he attended an early screening revealed that there is only one Green Lantern in the film, and he is shown to be killed in the past. When commenters asked who the Lantern was, the leaker said it was neither Hal Jordan nor John Stewart.
User doctormanhatten38772 supported this claim, sharing he also remembers the history lesson scene. "We see one unnamed green lantern and he is wearing i believe a more classic green lantern suit closer to the comics than the 2011 movie, but I could be wrong because it was moving so fast," he said.
That Green Lantern allegedly dies, and the Power Ring flies to another Corps member. If this is accurate, it now makes sense why no actor has been cast for the role in "Justice League."
While the Green Lantern's identity is unknown in the film, Movie Pilot notes that his death establishes two things: humans are aware of the Green Lantern Corps and that Earth now needs a new Lantern to protect it.
If the one featured in "Justice League" is not Hal, the Air Force Captain could very well be the successor who receives the ring and star in the upcoming standalone film. Then again, nothing has been confirmed yet at this juncture.
What is only certain for now is that Green Lantern's appearance is not the show-stopping cameo everyone has been hoping for. Rather, "Justice League" merely alludes to the character's existence, but that is no surprising move at all given his solo film will not arrive until at least 2020.
In the meantime, fans can catch the other DC superheroes on "Justice League" which hits theaters on Friday, Nov. 17. It stars Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, and Ray Fisher as Cyborg.
