Five years after the release of "Just Cause 2," the second installment in Avalanche Studio's open-world action-adventure game franchise, "Just Cause 3" is almost ready for rollout and now has a release date set in December. Microsoft made the announcement during the Xbox Briefing at the recently concluded Gamescom 2015 held in Cologne, Germany early this month.

According to game company Square Enix, those who will purchase the upcoming "Just Cause" game for the Xbox One will also get the backward-compatible version of "Just Cause 2," which was originally released for the Xbox 360. Square Enix followed the footsteps of Bethesda, which worked with Microsoft to provide free copies of "Fallout 3" for those who pre-order the Xbox One version of the upcoming "Fallout 4" title.

There are also other titles that will take advantage of Xbox One's latest feature, including "Far Cry 2," "Assassin's Creed Brotherhood," "Assassin's Creed II," "Bayonetta," "Bioshock" "Bioshock Infinite," "Dark Souls," as well as "Risen 2" and "Risen 3."

Microsoft will start implementing the backwards compatibility mode starting November this year.

"Just Cause 3" art director Zach Schläppi talked to PC GamesN to discuss what players should expect from the upcoming game.

"You know, I see Just Cause 2 as sort of a Uwe Boll movie," Schläppi said. "And I see Just Cause 3 as an Expendables movie, or a Michael Bay movie. That's how I'd compare it."

In the upcoming game, protagonist Rico Rodriguez will return to his homeland, the Mediterranean island called Medici. He has to face the ruthless dictator named General Di Ravello who is bent on staging world domination. Rico will do everything that he can to stop Di Ravello and his evil plans.

Aside from the backwards compatibility feature, "Just Cause 3" will also come with several new tools that will help players in their quest. It includes a new wingsuit for better gliding, as well as stronger missile launchers and shotgun RPGs.

"Just Cause 3" will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on Dec. 1.
