'Jurassic World 2: Fallen Kingdom' cast rumors: Could Ellie Sattler be making a cameo? Laura Dern weighs in

Another "Jurassic Pak" veteran may be returning in "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom." Laura Dern, who played paleobotanist Dr. Ellie Sattler, coyly teased that she may get a cameo in the upcoming movie.

When asked about the possibility of her character's return, Dern did not exactly say no. However, she seemed keen on coming back at some point, saying her screen time should not be over just yet.

"[It] could be fun," she told Entertainment Tonight at the recent premiere of "Downsizing," in which she also has a cameo. "I mean, I love Ellie Sattler... She's a tough feminist, come on! We need her back."

The last time fans saw Dern's Ellie Sattler was in "Jurassic Park III." She did not have a major role in that movie, but she helped call a crucial last-minute rescue to Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill). According to Cinema Blend, the paleobotanist always seems to have an empathetic view toward the dinosaurs that could perfectly fit in with the premise of the next installment.

As seen from the trailer, "Fallen Kingdom" sees Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) and Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) rescue the remaining dinosaurs on Isla Nublar who are in danger of being wiped out by a volcanic eruption.

If she does end up appearing in the film, she would not be the only character from the original "Jurassic" trilogy. Jeff Goldblum will be back as Dr. Ian Malcolm as well for what he says to be a small part. It would mark his first appearance since 1997's "Jurassic Park 2: The Lost World."

In the trailer, an aged Malcolm is seen sitting in a rather large courtroom, giving insights in what appears to be a debate of the fate of the dinosaurs on Isla Nublar, and what responsibility the outside world may have in their survival.

For now, the idea of Dern reuniting with Goldblum and the dinosaurs is a mere speculation. Whether she is simply campaigning for Ellie Sattler's comeback or inviting fans to read between the lines is something fans will not likely know until the movie arrives in theaters. Until then, take the aforementioned with a grain of salt.

Directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" opens in cinemas on June 22, 2018.
