"Interstellar" star Jessica Chastain, director Judd Apatow and Italian actress Asia Argento took to Twitter their support for "Pulp Fiction" and "Kill Bill" star Uma Thurman's claims.
On Feb. 3, Uma Thurman revealed in an article in The New York Times that executive producer Harvey Weinstein sexually assaulted her after filming "Pulp Fiction" in London. She also revealed that "Pulp Fiction" and "Kill Bill" director Quentin Tarantino forced her to drive a faulty car in "Kill Bill" that resulted in a concussion and damaged neck and knees. Furthermore, she said Tarantino himself had done some of the brutal scenes to her in the movie, which included the one where she was spat on the face and the one where she was strangled with a chain. Miramax, Weinstein's entertainment company, kept the footage of Thurman's car stunt. Tarantino gave her the footage 15 years later, which she posted on her Instagram account on Feb. 6.
Chastain said in a tweet that she has great respect for Thurman. In another tweet, she talked about Thurman's claim that Tarantino did the brutal scenes himself for "Kill Bill." She said: "I keep imagining Tarantino spitting in Uma's face and strangling her with a chain for KILL BILL. How many images of women in media do we celebrate that showcase abuse? When did this become normalized 'entertainment'?" Furthermore, she said in another tweet: "Directors inserting themselves into a scene depicting abuse is crossing a boundary. How can an actor feel safe when your director is strangling you?"
Chastain retweeted Apatow's tweet wherein he said Tarantino also ignored "Kill Bill: Volume 2" actress Daryl Hannah's sexual harassment complaints against Weinstein. Apatow also talked about Tarantino's upcoming movie which is about child rapist Roman Polanski. Argento supported Thurman on Twitter as well. She retweeted Apatow's tweet and also tweeted: "Weinstein and Tarantino, what a pair! A serial rapist and a near murderer. It's no fucking joke what these abhorrent criminals did to Uma Thurman, before and after #KillBill. They put her life, her dignity, her sanity in danger. Burn in hell you sick f***s."
Meanwhile, Weinstein's attorney Ben Brafman said that Thurman's claims are being investigated before deciding whether legal action against her is suitable.
