The CW orders 5 more scripts each for 'iZombie' season 2 and 'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend'

The CW aired the first episode of "iZombie" season 2 just last Tuesday and is gearing up for the premiere episode of the new series "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" on Oct. 12 but the network is already asking for five more scripts each from the two shows.

The network asked the writers of "iZombie" to submit five additional scripts one day before the show's season 2 episode 1 aired this week. This is not the first time that The CW made such a move, having made a similar request with "The Flash" and "Jane the Virgin" before they aired last year.

The DC Comics-based "iZombie" first aired during the 2014 to 2015 fall season. It stars Rose McIver as the medical resident-turned-zombie Liv Moore. Her struggles to help catch criminals while keeping her zombie manifestations a secret continue in season 2. The second season of the series was originally planned to have 13 episodes, but the new development has increased that to 18 episodes.

While series showrunner Rob Thomas did not get the 22-episode order that he initially wished for, 18 episodes might be enough to keep the show afloat.

"If we only get 13 episodes, we are going to be in big trouble. I'm structuring this season like we're doing 22. If we don't get a back-nine order and end up only doing 13, it will just feel like the water cut off midstream," Thomas earlier told the Hollywood Reporter.

Meanwhile, "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" is an upcoming musical comedy-drama produced by Rachel Bloom, who also portrays the lead character named Rebecca Bunch.

The new series centers on the life of Rebecca, who has been pursuing her ideal guy Josh (Vincent Rodriguez III) for the longest time after he broke up with her in 2005 while they were in high school. Then 10 years later, Rebecca bumps into Josh in New York City. However, Josh tells Rebecca that he will be moving to West Covina, California soon. Because of her determination to get Josh notice her again, Rebecca decides to move to California to be closer to Josh.

"iZombie" season 2 airs every Tuesday, while "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" gets the Monday slot on The CW this season.
