'Iron Man 4' sequel to release in 2020?

Iron Man as seen in Avenger: Age of Ultron Marvel Studios

After Marvel revealed four new theatrical release dates for several planned film adaptations of the comic book characters until 2020, fans were hopeful that one of them belongs to the highly anticipated "Iron Man 4" movie.

Marvel Studios laid out the latest inclusion in their schedule during the recently concluded 2015 New York Comic Con, including the July 6, 2018 release date of an Ant-Man/The Wasp film. However, the titles for the movies that will be released on May 1, July 10, and Nov. 6 in 2020 are still under wraps.

Hopeful fans of the "Iron Man" franchise would like to think that one of these dates will be dedicated to the fourth installment of the superhero film featuring rich playboy Tony Stark and his alter-ego Iron Man. More specifically, Crossmap revealed that fans of the movie franchise would like to see the film released on May 1, 2020.

But there is no confirmed information about the movie as of the moment.

One of the most speculated topics is about the casting of the upcoming movie. If film director Shane Black's statement is to be believed, the role of Tony Stark in "Iron Man 4" will still be played by Robert Downey Jr.

Previous rumors claimed that Downey is in constant talks with Marvel to renew his contract before reprising his role as Iron Man. Based on reports, the actor wants to be paid more than his recent asking price of $80 million when he appeared in "Avengers: Age of Ultron." But since all installments of "Iron Man" became financially successful, it could be safe to assume that Marvel would still want him to portray the film's lead character.

Other rumors claim that Marvel felt that the actor's asking price was extremely high, which is why they are considering to replace him for the fourth film. But other speculations assumed that young actor Harley Keener, who portrayed the role of Ty Simpkins in the third "Iron Man," will replace Downey in the next film.
