'Iron Fist' season 2 cast, plot news: 'Star Trek Into Darkness' star Alice Eve joins Marvel series

Alice Eve as Carol Marcus in "Star Trek Into Darkness" Paramount Pictures

As "Iron Fist" gears up for the production of season 2 this month, the Netflix show has started to round up its cast and the latest addition is Alice Eve -- who has landed an unspecified but presumably crucial role.

Eve is best known for starring opposite Bryce Dallas Howard in "Black Mirror" season 3 and playing Carol Marcus in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek Into Darkness." She joins returning cast members Finn Jones and Jessica Henwick who will reprise their roles of Danny Rand and Colleen Wing, respectively. Tom Pelphrey and Jessica Stroup are returning as well as Ward and Joy Meachum.

There is not much about the casting news to go on, but some speculate she may be portraying the character indicated in a previous casting call. As reported earlier, "Iron Fist" season 2 is seeking an actress in her twenties for the role of a "Tanya Parker." Described as a "freelance covert operative" who blends in well at playing roles, the character is rumored to be Tanya Adrian, also known as Lady Gorgon.

In the comics, Lady Gorgon is a member of The Hand sent to kill The Punisher. It is worth noting, however, that Eve is much older than the age required for the character. So, there is a possibility that might not be her role. Either way, executive producer Jeph Loeb's comments to Variety sound like they brought her on board to create a spark.

"We are very excited to have an actress of Alice's stature join the cast of Marvel's Iron Fist," Loeb said in a statement. "Her exceptional talent brings an intrigue and danger to her character unlike anyone else."

Unfortunately, it might take a while before fans learn who Eve is portraying. Although "Iron Fist" is already confirmed for season 2, Netflix has not announced its return date yet. In the meantime, fans can catch up on the first season of the show. All episodes are available to stream on Netflix today.
