Apple prepared their devices for the latest iOS 9 update beginning Wednesday, but some of those who normally use their smart devices for mobile payments might want to think twice before downloading the latest mobile operating system.
Before the rollout of iOS 9, Swedish mobile payment company iZettle released a statement to warn their customers about updating the operating system of their Apple devices. According to the maker of the Card Reader Pro and the Pro Contactless systems, which are used for cashless transactions using card payments and Apple Pay, it seems the latest iOS 9 update is not compatible with their system.
iZettle reported that their card readers started to experience Bluetooth connection problems when pairing the devices using iOS 9. When pairing, the iOS 9 turns off the Bluetooth connection, which makes it impossible to push through with the contactless card payment using the iZettle-manufactured products.
"The problem causes Bluetooth to switch off when you try to pair the Card Reader Pro or Pro Contactless. The reader can't pair, and therefore you can't take card payment," the statement sent by iZettle to iDigitalTimes reads.
The company advises their users to avoid updating to iOS 9 at the moment.
But the Swedish contactless point device maker also said that Apple has already been informed about their current problems with the disconnection issues when using Bluetooth in their card readers. They also reported that the Cupertino-based company promised they will do their best to offer a solution that will be included in the next iOS 9 update.
So far, iZettle is the only company that reported such an issue.
iZettle operates their contactless card transactions all over Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Germany, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Mexico, Brazil, and the U.K.
Meanwhile, the iOS 9 went live on Wednesday at 1 p.m. ET, but users have been complaining about download problems, issues when installing the new Apple OS. The error message shows: "Software Update Failed: An error occurred downloading iOS 9."
