Apple unveiled the latest iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus on Tuesday, Sept. 9, and the device will indeed run on iOS 8.

The tech giant announced the release of iOS 8 during the annual Worldwide Developers Conference last June 2, but the software is not expected to be available until later this year.

As of now, only the developers of Apple apps are permitted to download the new version of iOS in their Apple devices like the iPhone or iPad.

iOS 8 Beta 4 became available for developers last July 21.

Reportedly, the software version with the most number of beta versions is iOS 5, which had a total of seven beta updates. iOS 7, on the other hand, went through six beta versions prior to its final release.

"We're expecting iOS 8 to be available as a free upgrade for existing owners after the iPhone 6 is released - it's due to be announced tomorrow (9 September), but will likely go on sale around the 19th of that month," according to an article posted on PC Advisor.

The final Gold Master version of the iOS 8 will be available to download on Sept. 17.

When the iOS 8 is made available to the public, users will be able to download it over-the-air wirelessly. Before downloading and installing, be sure to plug in your device to a power source.

Follow these steps to download the iOS 8: Settings > General > Software Update. Once Apple has the update available, users will be able to see 'iOS 8', which they can then click on to download.

When the software completes downloading, users can begin following the installation directions that will pop up on your device.

The software will also be available to download via iTunes. If you prefer to connect your device to your iMac or Macbook to install the new software, you can do so via iTunes.

Several reports note that the iOS 8 is a redesigned version of last year's iOS 7. However, last year's software update was not really received well by the public, especially those who have sight problems because of the low-contrast elements.

Then again, the tech firm describes iOS 8 as "the biggest iOS release ever — for developers and everyone else."

Craig Federighi, the senior vice president of software engineering of Apple said, "iOS 8 offers simpler, faster and more intuitive ways to use your device with incredible new features like iCloud Photo Library, a new Messages app, the QuickType keyboard and an entirely new Health app."

He also added, "We're also giving developers amazing new tools to make managing your health and your home from your devices an integrated, simple and secure experience."
