iOS 8 vs Android 5.0 L comparison: Battle of the smartphone operating systems

iOS 8

It seems like deciding whether to buy an Android-powered or iOS-running smartphone has become more complicated these days.

Before, consumers could easily distinguish which is which between these two mobile softwares, but over the last six months, the latest features that both offer have become more similar. It would be very difficult to tell them apart nowadays without comparing the strongest features of each operating system.

Here is a detailed comparison between the latest versions of Apple's and Google's mobile operating systems, the iOS 8 and the Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Design

One of the most notable features of Apple's iOS 8 is its clear, crisp design. Its newly improve graphic interface is considered to be a fresher take compared to its predecessor, the iOS 7. This makes the design of iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, as well as the updated Apple products more chic and trendy.

Meanwhile, Google's Android 5.0 Lollipop can now compete against iOS because of its enhanced design. Just like the iOS, Android Lollipop's graphic interface has become more stylish and up-to-date. It added several physical touches that were not present in its previous versions.

Just for the design alone, more people believe that Android Lollipop is better than iOS 8.

Security

iOS allegedly offers better security compared to Android 5.0. Google's software is known to be susceptible to mobile malware infiltration, and it may not win against the strict security measures that the Cupertino-based company offers in its mobile operating system.

Notification

Both Apple and Google worked hard to offer vastly improved notifications in their latest mobile OS versions. Since most people on-the-go prefer to see their updates instantly, the two companies created ways to bring them constant notifications whenever a new message, email, social network, or call alert is received by the device.

The iOS 8 offers interactive notifications that lets users see the new updates without having to install a particular app. Meanwhile, Google tried to come up with a similar approach, but iOS seems to work better according to satisfied users.

Battery Life

Since the mobile operating system from the Mountain View, California-based company came out, it has offered longer running battery life compared to iOS versions, even if the users tinker with its apps for a period of time. Apple, on the other hand, tried to improve iOS 8's battery capacity, yet Android 5.0 Lollipop is still better.
