HTC has yet to confirm the arrival of its next flagship smartphone. After the HTC U11 Plus launch last November, the rumors are rife that the handset maker is set to announce the HTC U12 early this year. Per the latest scoop, the unveiling could happen in Spring.
The details about the potential Spring launch of the HTC U12 came from Ricciolo, a known tech tipster on Twitter. Some people may question the authenticity of his source, although he appears to know much about the handset as he has posted several leaks regarding the U11 successor in the past. He mentioned in his tweet that the HTC U12 will be officially announced sometime in March or April, which falls into the Spring period.
The new features and design of the HTC U12 are not yet confirmed, although it is speculated that the next-gen smartphone will not be too different from its predecessor in terms of appearance. It is suggested that the upcoming handset will resemble the HTC U11 Plus, and with this, the U12 will most likely sport an all-screen display and its build will be made out of metal and glass materials.
However, there might be some big changes to be introduced by the HTC U12, particularly an in-display fingerprint reader that will replace the rear-mounted scanner from the U11 Plus. Also, the U12 is expected to feature an even slimmer bezel than the previous U11 design to achieve a true full-view display. As for the camera, it is possible that the HTC U12 will make the leap to a dual-lens rear camera setup, following the current trend among the premium handsets.
It is reported that the HTC U12 will be among the first few recipients of Qualcomm's latest high-end mobile processor, the Snapdragon 845. Aside from the expected boost in performance due to its powerful chipset, the device is expected to boast faster internet connection speed via gigabit LTE technology.
The HTC U12 was believed to arrive at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) later this February. Although, the company might have decided to showcase its latest flagship at a standalone event in order to avoid any direct comparisons with the Samsung Galaxy S9, which was confirmed to appear at the MWC 2018.
