A lot of amazing mid-range smartphones were released this year, which is why consumers are often confused when deciding to buy a new device.
One of the earlier devices that came out this year with mid-range specs is the HTC One M8, which is the improved version of the first HTC One released back in 2013.
The new-generation of HTC One received a lot of good feedback from both critics and users alike. It managed to enhance the earlier features of its predecessor, and added a few touches as well. Not only did it receive an improved design, it also has better specs compared to its first release.
Another interesting mid-range smartphone comes from Motorola Mobility. The device, called the Moto E, aims to provide high-end features at a lower cost.
Both smartphones target consumers who want to own a functional device but does not want to shell out cash for a more expensive model. But which one of these two would be worth the money? Here's a look at the comparison between the two devices:
Body and Display
The HTC One M8 has a 5.0-inch Super LCD3 capacitive touchscreen with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, featuring 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution and 441 ppi pixel density. It measures 5.76 x 2.78 x 0.37 inches, and weighs 5.64 ounces.
Meanwhile, the Moto E comes with a slightly smaller 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen with 540 x 960 pixel resolution and 256 ppi pixel density. It is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It has an all-around measurement of 4.91 x 2.55 x 0.48 inches and weighs 5.01 ounces.
Internal Specs
The HTC One M8 is fully equipped with a Qualcomm MSM8974AB Snapdragon 801 chipset with quad-core 2.3 GHz (US/EMEA) or 2.5 GHz (Asia, China) Krait 400 processor, along with an Adreno 330 GPU. It comes with 2 GB of RAM as well as 16 GB and 32 GB internal memory options that can be expanded up to 128 GB using the microSD slot.
The HTC smartphone currently runs using the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system, but it can be upgradable to Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Meanwhile, the Moto E smartphones are packed with Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 chipset with dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 processor and Adreno 302 GPU. It has an internal memory of 4 GB, but it can be expanded up to 32 GB using the built-in microSD slot.
The Moto E uses the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system, but it will also be updated to the latest Lollipop version.
Camera
The HTC One prides itself with a dual 4-megapixel primary camera with dual LED flash and autofocus functions, and it has a 5-megapixel secondary camera for better selfie shots.
The Moto E, on the other hand, only has one 5-megapixel camera and no secondary camera.
