'How to Get Away with Murder' season 3 spoilers, air date: Keating 5 to deal with new challenges in school

 ABC

After several hard-hitting courtroom battles, Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) and her Keating Five students will see themselves back in the classroom when "How to Get Away with Murder" returns on ABC for season 3.

The network just released a series of promo images showing that classes in Middleton University resumes, and Annalise will once again face her entire criminal law class despite all the courtroom drama that she and her staff had been through in the past seasons.

Her five selected students, including Asher Millstone (Matt McGorry), Michaela Pratt (Aja Naomi King), Laurel Castillo (Karla Souza), Connor Walsh (Jack Falahee), and Wes Gibbins (Alfred Enoch) will start to actually attend their classes for their second year in law school this season.

In an interview with E! News, series creator Pete Nowalk teased that season 3 will finally focus on the classroom.

"Obviously these are kids who came to law school. Things happened. We are going to find them in their second year of law school now and they have to basically pick up the pieces and get their s--t together and move on with their lives," Nowalk said. "So being a student is going to be a struggle for them, but they need to do it and it's sort of fake it 'til you make it and maybe things will go back to normal."

But the series creator also revealed that no matter how hard Annalise's five closest students try to forget everything that they have been through during the first two seasons, their efforts will simply fail.

He also said that compared to the previous seasons, there will be no over-arching case that Annalise and her team will tackle this time to challenge the show's plot.

"We're still going to have flash forwards and those are going to rock everyone's world. I'm just going out on a limb! I'm going to say that because they rock mine and they terrify me. But they're really big and they're big for the show," Nowalk said.

"How to Get Away with Murder" season 3 premieres on Thursday, Sept. 22.
