'Heroes Reborn' season 2 renewal: Show likely to be cancelled

 NBC

There's great hope that "Heroes Reborn" will get a season 2 renewal. The reboot, however, is originally designed as a one-off miniseries event only, which means that the show was only meant to run for the 13 episodes it was given.

This is what NBC chairman Robert Greenblatt reiterated in a statement in a recent press event. "Yeah, I think that was always the plan," he said (via Den of Geek), referring to the show only running for one season.

"Unless [creator Tim Kring] woke up one day and said, 'I have another chapter to tell.' But I think we're coming to the end...of the world. Stay tuned," Greenblatt added. So from the looks of it, "Heroes Reborn" was meant to be short-lived.

In a separate interview, Greenblatt said (via Slash Film) that "As far as I know, there's no more incarnations of Heroes coming." Kring, however, said back in Comic Con (via THR ) that the show is "elastic enough to reboot" and that it does not necessarily mean the same characters are needed for the story to continue.

Even if the original plan was to be scrapped, some fans do not see the show getting a renewal either way. Design N' Trend collected comments from viewers of the show, who were mostly disappointed of how the reboot turned out.

Despite this though, there is still a multitude of fans who believe that "Heroes Reborn" season 2 should be made official. NBC is yet to make the announcement even as the show nears its season (or series) finale titled "Project Reborn."

In a promo for the "epic finale," Tommy finally comes out of his shell to become what he was always destined to be – the world's savior. The short clip also teases that the time has come for the heroes to "save the world."

Hiro implores Tommy to "be brave" after the latter queried him on what the best thing is to do in the face of the planet's ultimate destruction. With Tommy leading the charge, will the world obtain peace once and for all?

"Heroes Reborn" wraps up on Jan. 21 with "Project Reborn."
