The cast of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is back on set to shoot the highly anticipated Marvel sequel. Joining Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker and the rest of the ensemble is Kurt Russell.

Director James Gunn revealed the actor's inclusion as he announced the beginning of the official photography for the film. There's no news about his role but some fans surmise that "The Hateful Eight" star will be playing the role of Peter Quill's dad.

A fan suggested that Russell might play the role of J'son of Spartax, an emperor and the father or Star-Lord in the comics.

Gunn replied, saying "Well unless he's Moon Knight's stoner neighbor," referring to the mercenary, whose strength and agility relies on lunar activity, hence the name. It looks like Gunn is simply playing with the fans but this remark undoubtedly made some of them hopeful.

The filmmaker was also asked about Benicio del Toro reprising his role as Collector in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" Being coy as always, Gunn responded "I like Benicio and the Collector and they (he?) could be important in the future of the MCU." The Collector is one of the characters rumored to be Star-Lord's father as well.

Along with the announcement, Gunn also shared a poster from the sequel (see photo above), which shows a silhouette of the guardians. The group of Star-Lord, Gamorra, Drax, Rocket and Groot is set to expand in the upcoming film as new guardians are set to arrive.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will focus on exploring the family background of Chris Pratt's Peter Quill who likes to call himself Star-Lord. In the first film, the identity of his father was kept a secret. Pratt is as "stoked" as Gunn going back to work on the film.

In an Instagram post where he shared a photo of the trademark awesome mix tape, the actor promised that "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. is going to be the greatest spectacle film of all time."

Apart from Russell, stars Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki and Chris Sullivan are also some of the new faces fans will see when "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," which hits the big screen on May 5, 2017.
