Kurt Russell landed a big role in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," thanks to Chris Pratt.

James Gunn told Empire that the decision to get the seasoned actor to become a part of the movie as Star Lord's father in the sequel was Pratt's idea.

"He was actually not in my head initially, but one day Chris suggested him, and I would have been really disappointed if he'd said no," the film director said. "Hey, if you have to cast anything, Kurt's a pretty good way to go."

Pratt, on the other hand, also revealed how he sees his character Star-Lord connect with Russell's Ego.

"You're going to see these characters having to endure the realities of being in a family," the actor stated. "You're talking about a guy who's been longing to know who his father is for a long time. He'll discover if that person lives up to the expectations he has in his head."

Meanwhile, other details about the film were revealed during Gunn's Facebook Live session on Friday, where he confirmed some of the speculations about the upcoming movie. One of the revelations that he made is the participation of Sylvester Stallone in the film, but he refused to reveal his particular role in the movie.

The filmmaker also mentioned that the movie will pick up two months after the events of the first film, and baby Groot will remain as a child in the sequel.

Another revelation from Gunn during his Q&A session is the possibility of ending the franchise at the end of Vol. 2, since he is still unsure if he will still come up with a Vol. 3 in the future.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2" will also see the return of Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Vin Diesel as Groot, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Michael Rooker as Yondu Udonta, and Karen Gillan as Nebula. The film is slated to be released on May 5, 2017.
