'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' release date, cast: Earth may not feature at all in sequel

No humans allowed in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." Facebook/James Gunn

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" director James Gunn likes to talk to his fans on Facebook and answer questions about the film and about other stuff he is up to.

In his latest Facebook session, he emphasized that the next installment of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" has "no human characters," not even Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), whose dad is an alien that fans will meet in the upcoming film.

If Gunn's statement is all-encompassing, it could mean that "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" may not even take place on Earth, which is expected to aid the big reveal of Star-Lord's father.

What Gunn said also gives a whole new meaning to a leaked video where extras in civilian clothes did a take that showed them running away from something unseen (and that can flip cars) that CGI will provide post-production.

His remark, however, can also be taken to mean that there will be no human characters who will be prominent or impactful to the plot of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2."

Production of the highly anticipated Marvel film started last February. Gunn said in reply to a comment about how long the production will go on: "A couple months or something. I just take it day by day and try not to think of the end too much!"

Just recently, Pratt announced an event where a lucky fan gets a chance to hang out with him on the set of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2."

To get that rare opportunity, the actor urges fans to donate to Lake Stevens Boys & Girls Club via Omaze. Pratt recently gave a group of kids from the organization a surprise call in a new video where he showed off the Milano spaceship.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will be released May 5, 2017.
