'Gotham' season 2: First photos of The Penguin's Papa Kapelput released

Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor), also known as The Penguin, will be reunited with his father when "Gotham" returns for the second half of season 2.

Before the midseason finale of "Gotham" season 2, the cunning mob king of Gotham City lost his possessive mother, Gertrude Kapelput (Carol Kane), when she was stabbed by Tabitha Galavan. But he will not be alone for long since he will have a heart-tugging reunion with Papa Kapelput, who will be played by Paul Reubens.

Taylor first announced Reubens's participation on the show during the New York Comic Con in October 2015. However, he did not reveal what role Papa Kapelput will play in The Penguin's life after he lost his mother. Could he be The Penguin's source of comfort to ease his grief from his mother's passing? Or will he drive his son further into the life of crime?

Series executive producer Danny Cannon shared the first photos of Papa Kapelput on his Twitter account. The first one showed the father and son together, while the other one featured Papa Kapelput holding a candle.

This is not the first time that Reubens will portray the role of The Penguin's dad. In 1992's "Batman Returns," the actor gave life to the role while Danny DeVito played The Penguin.

Reubens is best known for portraying the iconic character Pee-wee Herman.

Meanwhile, the return of "Gotham" season 2 will also show the ramification of Theo Galavan's (James Frain) death under the hands of Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie). This could affect Gordon's relationship with Leslie Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) especially now that she is pregnant.

In an interview with TV Guide, executive producer Bruno Heller revealed that Jim will have a hard time dealing with the situation.

"He's certainly compromised," Heller said. "He's stepped over that moral line. Jim Gordon has made a terrible mistake, which he's going to pay for."

Heller also revealed that Jim's biggest sacrifice will be his relationship with Lee.

"Jim's essentially an honest man, so the need to have honest relationships does betray him in the end," the executive producer said.

"Gotham" season 2 returns on air on Feb. 29 on Fox.
