Google Pixel 3 release date, specs & features rumors: Concept render shows single-lens rear camera; Notch display not expected

Google has not yet mentioned its plans for the next-generation Pixel smartphones, although the internet already has all the details to keep the users interested. While the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are still expected to appear later this year, a visual artist has come up with a concept render for the much-awaited Pixel 2 successor. The takeaway from this concept image is that the Pixel 3 is not going with the notch display trend started by the iPhone X.

Concept Creator has posted a concept render of the Google Pixel 3, although the public must keep in mind that this render is not necessarily the official sneak peek to Google's upcoming flagship handset. The design and features included in the concept image are based on the currently available rumors, as well as the artist's own visualization of the Google Pixel 3.

The Google Pixel 3 concept render comes with a video tour experience, showing the possible specs and highlights of the hardware. For one, the Pixel 3 is shown to sport a single-lens camera sensor at the rear, which is contrary to earlier expectations that the smartphone will make a leap to a dual camera setup.

The concept image also reveals the Google Pixel 3 having an edge-to-edge display, which allows more screen area. However, the Pixel 3 does not have an all-screen display with a notch area on top, unlike the recently unveiled smartphones. Still, the Google Pixel 3 not going with a notch display cannot be considered a bad thing just yet, especially if there is a good reason that comes with that decision.

In other news, Google's Android Open Source Project (AOSP) website has seemed to spill the beans regarding the Pixel 3 development. XDA Developers has uncovered a commit on the AOSP, wherein a certain line of code dictates, "this change added the config because the HAL V_1_2 only supports Pixel 3." The mention of the Pixel 3 pretty much confirms the name to be used in Google's next premium handset, according to Tech Radar.

Also, the HAL is said to be used in allowing a continuous scan for networks, instead of a manual network scan by tapping on the Pixel 3 screen.
