Horror survival game fans will have another title to look forward to in 2017 since Gun Media and IllFonic is slated to release "Friday the 13th: The Game."

The upcoming survival horror adventure game based on the film franchise with the same title is reportedly focused on the same events of the classic 1980s slasher film.

According to reports, "Friday the 13th: The Game" will be released as an asymmetrical multiplayer that can let eight people play in one game at the same time. Players can either chose to assume the role of the franchise's main villain, Jason Voorhees, while others could take on the roles of camp counselors from Crystal Lake whose main goal is to escape Jason's wrath.

A Kickstarter campaign was launched by the game developer to help fund the creation of the game. It became one of the most crowdfunded projects in history, after garnering $823,704.20 from 12,128 backers.

According to the description posted on Kickstarter, "Friday the 13th is the definition of horror to the millions of fans around the world." The description also said that a dangerous killer who is hiding behind a mask is bent on killing innocent victims. "Friday the 13th: The Game will give you the feeling of horror and dread that you expect from Jason Voorhees. This will be the ultimate asymmetrical horror experience unlike anything you've seen - a title we're proud to introduce that is worthy of the name 'Friday the 13th,'" the Kickstarter description also said.

The game is initially scheduled for launch in 2016, but the release date had been pushed back to 2017. The delay was also announced on the Kickstarter campaign page, but the game's co-creator, Wes Keltner, stated that delaying the game's release date is necessary to make sure that the backers, and those who already pre-ordered the game will have something to look forward to when the game comes out.

However, players can also look forward to the game's beta before it officially ships to the market.

"Friday the 13th: The Game" will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
