'The Fosters' season 3 spoilers: Stef and Lena to honor their kids' dads in episode 2

The Fosters season 3 ABC Family

After ending the second season with a dreadful car accident, "The Fosters" returned on June 8 to deal with its aftermath as well as a possible implication of a budding romance.

At the end of season 2, the Fosters' adopted twins Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) and Jesus (Jake T. Austin), and their biological mother Ana (Alexandra Barretto) had a terrible accident. The fate of the car crash victims was undetermined at that time, but it seemed like someone was in grave danger after police officer Stef Foster (Teri Polo) received the report of a car crash with one fatality.

Fans of the show were worried that Jesus would not survive the car crash since Austin earlier revealed that he will not return to "The Fosters" for its third season. But it was later on revealed in the premiere episode of season 3 that Jesus managed to survive the accident, but he later on decided to go to boarding school.

But while the twins and their biological mother were trying to move on from the accident, Stef remained disturbed about it since the driver responsible for the crash escaped. She and her partner Mike (Danny Nucci) continued to investigate about the incident, and they found out that the vehicle that banged out Ana's station wagon was stolen. They were suspecting that the son of the vehicle's owner was responsible for the accident, but Mike discovered that his prints did not match those found in the crime scene.

Meanwhile, Jude's (Hayden Byerly) boyfriend Connor (Gavin MacIntosh) finally returned to school after being hospitalized due to the shooting incident last season. The two decided to be in a relationship in the season 2 finale. But while Connor is confident about them, Jude seemed to be uncomfortable in coming out as gay. He asked Connor to keep their status a secret.

Callie (Maia Mitchell) was also put in trouble in this episode because of an underage foster child named AJ (Tom Williamson). Helping him made her lose her chance to get the independent study credit that she was working hard for so she can graduate on time.

For the second episode of season 3, "The Fosters" will celebrate the day of all dads. The official synopsis for the episode titled "Father's Day" reads:

As part of their annual tradition, Stef and Lena (Sherri Saum) have Mike over for Father's Day brunch. Jude surprises everyone, especially Callie, by inviting his biological father, Donald (guest star Jamie McShane, "Murder in the First"), to join them. Callie spends Father's Day with the Quinns and hears some surprising news. Frustrated by his situation at Idyllwild, Brandon (David Lambery) let's off some steam with his classmates."

"The Fosters" season 3 episode 2 airs Monday, June 15, on the ABC Family.
